Enhancing Information Systems for University Education: Project No. 3051 and 240 Initiatives

The University of Ostrava is undertaking critical projects funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports CR aimed at improving information systems essential for educational processes. Project No. 3051 focuses on upgrading technical infrastructure to enhance system reliability for 6,000 students and 500 employers, running from January to December 2005. Concurrently, Project No. 240 addresses disk storage shortages by installing a central data storage system, ensuring efficient data access. Both projects prioritize speed, security, and capability of existing systems while facilitating modern operational standards in educational environments.

Providing of technical background of information systems important for process of education at University Project No. 3051 was approved to finance in frame of University Development Fund in behalf on Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports CR Object To provide adequate technical background of information systems necessary for University run. Systems are used by 6000 students and 500 employers every day. Duration 1 January 2005 – 31 December 2005 Keywords Information systems, data storage system, servers. • Role of OU • To enable further development and safe operation of all information systems at University by buying new servers. IS runs on Oracle system. • To aim a higher speed, stability, reliability and safety of all applications running on Novell Systems by strengthening of hardware. To provide higher secure of saved data to all employers and students of University by buying and connecting new data storage system. • To support speed, accessibility, reliability and safety of all systems by providing the further active elements of new generation. ICT Development at University of Ostrava Project No. 240 was approved to finance in frame of development and transformation projects of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports CR Object To solve the problem of the lack of disk storage for users‘ data and applications in University network. The project offers a complex solution by buying and installation the central data storage system with a big capacity enabling the users to use all university operation systems. Duration 1 January 2005 – 31 December 2005 Keywords Information and communication technologies, central data storage system, SAN switch • Role of OU • Buying of equipment – data storage system with adequate capacity; and equipment enabling connection of different system to it (SAN switch). • Equipment configuration and data installation in order to full use of new data storage system. • As a part of the project there are two subprojects: • Print solutions of study agenda documents. • Innovation of electronic accesses in study halls of university‘s library.
