  1. Important Things That You Need To Know About Resistors Have you used or tested any electronic component before? If not, then you might not be aware of resistors as an electronic component. It is one of the most common electronic components used in most of the electronic circuits. Resistors help resist the electrical current flow. There are different types of resistors available for use. A few standard resistors are Wire-wound resistors, carbon composition, metal film, thick and thin film resistor, carbon film resistor, and foil resistor. All these resistors have different qualities, and that is why when buying resistors, it is always imperative to check them according to the use. Some of the resistors can be used for low noise applications, whereas others can be used for high power applications. Some resistors are made for measurement circuits. Below, we are sharing a few things about resistors electronic components that you need to know before you buy and start using them. Resistors Power Rating – The resistor's size is based on the power rating of the resistor. In simple terms, it is known as the power handling capacity of the resistor. If a resistor has a high or more power rating, then it will be usually bigger in comparison to those resistors that have a low power rating. The resistor's power rating is mentioned in the unit, Watt. Resistor’s Resistivity – The material used for the fabrication of the resistor is responsible for the resistor's resistivity. The calculation of resistivity is done based on unit cross- sectional area and unit length. In simple words, we can say that the resistivity is the material's resistance, which is used in the resistor. Material used for making resistors – This is one of the essential factors when it comes to selecting the resistor electronic components as the resistance is dependent on it. Most of the resistors are made using Bronze, Eureka, Constantan, Tungsten, and Nichrome. Choosing the material of the resistor also depends on where and for what purpose the resistor is going to be used. Selection of the resistor – For selecting a resistor, there are a few points that need to be considered. The most important point is to check the resistance. One also needs to find how the resistor will be installed. Whether it will be installed using Surface Mount Resistors Method, Bracket Mount Resistors Method or PC Mount Resistors Method. Now you know the crucial facts about the resistor, so you will not face the problem in buying one for any application.
