  2. Soccer • The game is played using a single spherical ball, known as the football or soccer ball. Two teams of eleven players each compete to get the ball into the other team's goal, thereby scoring a goal. The team that has scored more goals at the end of the game is the winner; if both teams have scored an equal number of goals then the game goes into a shootout.

  3. Soccer Terms • Dribbling: moving the soccer ball with your feet • Header: striking the soccer ball with your head • Striker: forwards whose main objective is to score goals • Keeper: The goaltender • Midfielder: responsible for keeping possession of the ball • Defender: responsible for preventing opponents from scoring • Throw-in: When the ball goes out of bounds a player uses two hands to throw the ball overhead inbounds. • Penalty Kick: free kick awarded to a team after they have been fouled by the other team.

Soccer Terms • Goal Kick: when a player kicks the ball past the goal line but not scoring the opposite team gets a goal kick from their goal crease • Corner Kick: when a defensive player kicks the ball past the goal line the offense gets a kick from the corner of the offensive zone. • Offsides: When a player is behind the defense before the ball has passed • Trapping: settling down of the ball without using ones hands • Direct Kick: a penalty kick in which you can score • Indirect Kick: a penalty kick in which the ball must touch another player before you can score. • Kick Off: to begin each period of play or after a goal by the opposing team.

  7. Soccer (Other) • Two halves of 45 minutes • Injury Time: Time played after regulation due to injuries of players.. Varies! • Goaltender is the only player allowed to use his hands on the ball. • Soccer is growing into one of the most played sports in the united states and across the world!
