  2. 2040 Regional Transportation Plan • Adopted May 26, 2011 • RTPs are the governing documents for all regionally significant transportation projects. • Multi-modal • Roads: capacity, safety and preservation of the existing system • Transit: truly comprehensive system by focusing on Bus Rapid Transit, streetcar and bus to complement rail system

  3. Implementation of 2040 RTP • Promote the Wasatch Choice for 2040 Vision • Encourage use of the Growth Principles • Educate local planners on Form Based Codes • Provide workshops and informational seminars • Continue working closely with UTA, UDOT, etc. • Encourage the use of best practices

  4. Specific Development Strategies • Encourage contiguous growth • Promote infill before new growth • Plan for more TODs and urban centers • Provide jobs closer to residential areas • Promote alternative travel modes • Support efforts to preserve critical open space

  5. What Has Been Completed To Date? • WFRC has formally adopted the Growth Principles and the Wasatch Choice for 2040 Vision • Regional cities and counties have adopted the Growth Principles • A number of educational forums on TOD’s, form based codes, and complete streets have been held • Local zoning ordinances have changed to reflect the ideals of smart growth
