Status of the eGCC Administrative Rollout • What is eGCC • A little history • Late Fall 2005 Brainstorming and early planning • Early Spring 2006 planning, designing, SoftGrid proving • End Spring 2006 SoftGrid meetings and approval • Summer 2006 Intensive design, testing and implementation • Fall 2006 Go live eGCC for academic computing • (Consultants, IT plans and reports, IT reorganization, continue to rebuild IT staffing losses) • Fall 2007 eGCC one year old

Status of the eGCC Administrative Rollout • What is eGCC to me in my office • Software delivered via SoftGrid • and Local installs where needed • Same login as in classrooms • Partially roaming profile to allow your working environment to follow you. • Integrated with collaboration tools • Sharepoint, future tools. • The Bad News • Reimaging of your office computer • Migration of local and network data to new system • Not Painless

Status of the eGCC Administrative Rollout • Why is GCC going eGCC • Consolidated systems • Reduce our support costs by removing duplicate networking systems (Netware-Glory goes away) • Increase the quality of tech support by focusing fewer systems • Being a high tech educational institution means moving forward • Work smarter not harder • Campus resources integrated with AD provide more seamless usage • Remote assistance tools • Computers in Active Directory monitored for problems and fixed remotely when possible

Status of the eGCC Administrative Rollout • How will this happen? • What has happened so far • Student and instructional systems all eGCC • Some staff on eGCC • Genesis self help tools for eGCC (growing) • Other background tools to smooth transition to administrative computers (HWDB, DHCP, other techie sounding acronyms) • eGCC VPN for secure remote access (in testing stage) • SharePoint system in semi-production • Collaboration tools for employees

Status of the eGCC Administrative Rollout • How will this happen? • What needs to happen • All ITS staff need to be using eGCC • Additional tools and improvement to tools • Storage space for transitioning office computers • Pre-production systems become production • Training resources and sessions for employees and technicians • Migration strategy for Glory Shared data to eGCC • Sharepoint, dept folders, archiving and records retention methods. • Standardize North campus with Main campus

Status of the eGCC Administrative Rollout • How will this happen? • What happens at each desktop? • Backup image of existing system • Inventory of existing software needs • Reimage computer • Migrate data, includes archiving procedures • Migrate Glory H: drive to eGCC H: drive • Migrate local data from backup to newly imaged system • Logon and start using eGCC • Submit Help Desk requests for changes and additions • If you don’t have a Work Order created, you don’t have an IT request!

  13. Status of the eGCC Administrative Rollout • What is next? • We Need You! • Not just to volunteer. We need you to be a part of GCC moving forward. • We need your cooperation. We need you to help us be more efficient. Don’t make us be bureaucratic process pushers, help our processes work. • We need luck. Luck favors the prepared, we have prepared extensively, we need you to prepare with us.
