  2. Why Do We Measure? • So we can make stuff! • Clearly define aspects of engineered items • Conform to standards • Minimize confusion 1.8ish Build this!

  3. To make stuff, we need plans:

  4. Two Systems of Measurement: • Inches, Feet, Yards, Miles, Pounds, Etc. • Meters, Kilometers, centimeters, ounces,etc.

  5. Metric: • A metric unit is divided into 10 parts • Decimals! • 1.1 cm • 2.5 cm • Etc.

  6. Standard/Customary/English • Inches, Feet and so on • Fractions—usually divided into 16ths and simplified! • After 16ths come 32nds, 64ths, etc. • 1/16 inch • ¼ inch • Etc.

  7. English System: 1/16 3/16 7/16 9/16 5/16 11/16 13/16 15/16 5/8 1/8 3/8 7/8 1/4 3/4 0 1/2
