  10. Who is Responsible? • Don’t depend on the “experts” • When doctors treat children they make parents sign waivers consenting to treatment and assuming responsibility • So, parents are ultimately responsible for their children’s health You Are!

  12. Nutrition in America • A typical American only consumes 1-1/2 servings of vegetables and no fruit on an average day • America is the fattest nation on the planet • Americans spend 90% of their money on processed foods

  13. Children and Weight • The percentage of overweight children has more than doubled since 1980 • The percentage of overweight adolescents has more than tripled since 1980 • Overweight young people are more likely to become overweight or obese adults

  14. Nutrition AffectsMental and Emotional Health • Juvenile delinquents are usually hypoglycemic • Putting them on good diet kept them out of trouble with the law • Good nutrition makes children calmer and more co-operative, which makes parenting easier

Refined Sugar Contributes to: • Obesity • Tooth decay and loss of bone density • Reduced immune response (catching colds and flu more easily) • Hyperactivity, attention deficient disorder and increased behavioral problems • Nervous disorders, irritability, lethargy, nervousness • Yeast infections
