1. Stage 1 KNOW:What a sequencer is - Cubase SHOW: The hook live PRODUCE: A recorded version of your live performance

2. DECODE & PLAY THE HOOK – Play as class Key signature: The sharps F, C and G. So every time we see F, C or G we play F#, C# and G# instead. A ? ?# ? ?# ?# ?# ? ?# ?

3. Check your MIDI LEAD and KEYBOARD POWER Task 1:Open Cubase WHAT IS CUBASE? Do slides 3-11 with them

4. Task 2:Record the hook in real time using Cubase. • Select MORE • Select EMPTY 3. Select CREATE

5. Right mouse click here • Select ADD MIDI TRACK • Click ADD TRACK

6. Click here • Select DIGITAL KEYBOARD

7. Click in your ears Select TRANSPORT then click on METRONOME SETUP 3. Click on the MIDI Port/Channel and select DIGITALDKB-1

8. Turn PC mode MU1 -Hold PC mode down until ‘PC mode’ appears on Keyboard then turn black dial to ‘On’ mode. Turn PC mode MU2 –Follow the images below 1. Push the function button 2. Push the down category button 16 times until PC Mode appears on screen 3. Move the black wheel so the screen says PC2

9. Don’t forget - End of Lesson process: • Save In your ‘My Documents’, ‘Music’ folder • Close Cubase • Email work to rest of group & teacher. • Simples! Recording your hook Quantize: • Correct timing mistakes. • Input notes with precise timing. • Ensure ‘Snap’ is white (on). • Click on the quantize box. • Select 1/8: • By selecting 1/8 your dividing each bar (numbered sections) into 8ths. So, we can now fit 8 notes in a bar. (look at music notation poster).

10. Turn the metronome on. Press the record button, wait for the 8 bar count in, and then play the hook. The Transport Bar Auto quantise Metronome Time signature Tempo To Start Rewind Fast-Forward To End LoopStop Play

11. How to change voices: • Chn = 1 • Ensure each track has a different channel. To change channel click on the number and a drop down box will appear. For drum sounds you will need to be on Channel 10. • 2. PRG = 82 • Look at the voice list on the next slide. • 3. Bnk = 119 • Look at the voice list on the next slide.

12. TASK: On the next slide analyse these photographs.
