Background!! • When a child is adopted its not only an escape but a whole new world. • A social worker is not in it for the money, they are in it to make sure children have a place to sleep and food to eat. • Sole purpose: To save a child’s life!! • VERY FEW PEOPLE KNOW WHAT CHILD PROTECTIVE WORKERS GO THROUGH!!!

  3. Background!! (cont.) • REALLY?? Most people think that social workers are nothing more than home wreckers who barge into a private residence and pluck a child from the arms of a loving parent, or that they NEVER respond to a real case!!!! //: • Appearing Principle: preserve the privacy, safety, and security of a minor.

  4. Foster Parents. • Most people look down on foster parents because they took in a troubled child. • Society assumes F-Parents are “doing it for the money”. • 65% of foster parents in Iowa end up adopting children, making foster parents ineligible for financial assistance. ( So if they aren't getting the money then why did they adopt?? )

  5. Nina Coake! • Has been mother to 1,152 children over the past 50 years, and helped create one of the most successful foster parent systems in the Nation along the way. • Provided care for primarily abused, neglected and drug-addicted children.

  6. Alice Thornburgh! • Most foster children treat what they have like gold. • Foster children need someone to talk to. • Many foster children have NO motivation.

  7. Jesus!!!! Was Adopted!! ((: • Some people believe that Jesus was not adopted. But the truth is he was!!! • God was his father. (technically he is God.) But Joseph adopted him. Not legally ‘cause back then it did not matter if it was legal!!

  8. Marilyn Monroe as a Foster Child! • Perhaps the most famous Hollywood actress to date, Monroe was born in 1926 to a single mom. Due to the social implications of a single woman raising a child, Monroe spent the first years of her life with a foster family. Her birth mom tried to parent her when Monroe was seven, but her mom was declared legally insane and Monroe was placed in an orphanage. At age eleven, Monroe went to live with a family friend. When she was fifteen years old, she was given the choice to live at the orphanage or become married and she chose to marry.

  10. Education. • You have to have a Bachelors degree. • $ 1,092 per credit hour.You have to have 45 credit hours within 2 years. • Health care is $ 632 a year. • Student Council is $60 a year.

  11. Credits You Have to Have. • Introduction to advanced research. • Introduction to social measurement. • The role use of theory in applied social work. • Foundations of data analysis . • Multarative statistics.

  12. Average Pay?? • The pay ranges from $ 39,000 to $59,00 • The hiring rate in 2008 was 642,00 jobs!! ((:
