  2. There are 7 coordinating conjunctions: Remember these conjunctions with the acronym: FANBOYS. For And Nor But Or Yet So

  3. What conjunctions tell you: And – joins similar ideas in a neutral/positive way Cap held tai chi andtye dye classes at school. Nor – joins similar ideas in a negative way Sophie did not know that Cap sent her the bracelet, nor did Mrs. Donnelly. But – joins contrasting ideas Naomi wanted to be Zach’s girlfriend, but she disagreed with what he was doing to Cap. Yet – joins contrasting ideas Cap was treated unkindly by Zach, yet he never showed any signs of anger.

  5. What can conjunctions do? They can join compound subjects. Neither John nor Robert were available to help with the project. They can join compound verbs. He ate dinner and completed his homework after soccer practice.

  6. What can conjunctions do? They can join two sentences to make a compound sentence. We can make chicken on the grill, or we can eat leftovers. They can join lists of items. She needed to study for tests in science, math, and health.

  7. Let’s Practice Find conjunctions in your PCR book! List them.

  8. Homework Write a sentence about your PCR book using each of the 7 conjunctions. You should end up with 7 sentences, one conjunction each.
