  3. Types of data Categorical Numerical Have standard units of measurement Interval Ratio • Units are categories with no numerical meaning • Nominal • Ordinal

  4. Nominal data • Nominal data: • Categorizes people or things • Categories cannot be ordered • Frequency measures are used to describe/summarize the data

  5. Ordinal Data • Ordinal data: • Categorizes persons and things • Implies rank order of intensity but not a numeric quantity • No standard unit of measure

  6. iNTERVAL scales • Interval data : • Numerical • Distance between the numbers are equal but there is no zero • Standard unit of measure

  7. Ratio scales • Ratio data: • Numerical • There is equal distance between the numbers and there is a zero point • Standard unit of measure
