  1. ECOOP Task T2.5: River Data Progress in Year 1 Bruce Hackett, met.no Presented at ECOOP 1st Annual Meeting, Athens, Greece, 13-15 February 2008

  2. ECOOP T2.5 Title: Establish a pan-EU data base for river run-off Overall Objective: Establish a framework for integrating and harmonising observations of river runoff to the European coastal seas and providing them to coastal and shelf seas monitoring and forecasting services. Specific Objectives: To gain an overview of available data and to select an initial set of data for use in ECOOP. Define and test procedures for acquiring river runoff data from providers and making them available through the ECOOP data management systems. Provide river runoff data in each region to users through the ECOOP Data Management System

  3. ECOOP T2.5 Summary of aims and work What: Get an overview of what's available, what's possible to access in the (near) future and how. Set up procedures for data provision via the EDMS. Implement an initial feed of NRT river data to demonstrate value during TOP. How: Work through the ROOS’es to access data providers. Cooperate with the EDMS developers on provision to users – ROOS’es as main channel. Get feedback on usefulness and upgrade.

  5. ECOOP T2.5 Subtasks and their Deliverables S2.5.1 - Assessment of existing river run-off data D2.5.1.1: ECOOP River Data Catalogues (five regional) as digital spreadsheets (Mo 12) S2.5.2 - Interfacing to ECOOP Data Management System D2.5.2.1: ECOOP River Station Lists (five regional) as digital spreadsheets (Mo 12) D2.5.2.1: Report on interfacing river runoff data to the ECOOP Data Management System (Mo 18) S2.5.3 - Implementation of initial data sets in ECOOP Data Management System D2.5.3.1: Report on description and assessment of the ECOOP river runoff data provision. (Mo 36)

  6. ECOOP T2.5 Status Year 1 • River Data Catalogs (5 regional) as spreadsheet files • XLS templates delivered by met.no with initial info from GRDC • Progress in all 5 regions, but only IBI and BOOS are up to V1 readiness. • V0.6 of D2.5.1.1 delivered – will be updated. • River Station Lists (5 regional) as spreadsheet files • Delayed due to dependency on River Data Catalogs (of which the Lists are a subset). • Draft version (V0.3) of D2.5.2.1 files have been delivered – will be updated. • Interfacing to EDMS • candidate data format found at GRDC • Interactive Task web page http://ecoop-river.wiki.met.no with information, plans and results.

  7. = unchanged (GRDC archive info) or uncertain = updated only archive data info = updated only NRT data info = updated NRT and archive data info ECOOP River Data Catalogs in GE Why? • Visualize the observing network and coverage. • Help to identify relevant stations. • Make the information more easily accessible to others. How? • met.no builds kml directly from xls • Published on T2.5 wiki

  8. IBI-ROOS River Data Catalog v 1.01

  9. BOOS River Data Catalog V1.01

  10. NOOS River Data Catalog V0.52

  11. MED-GOOS River Data Catalog V0.31

  12. Black Sea GOOS River Data Catalog V0.51

  13. Next steps • Complete V1 of all River Data Catalogs (NOOS, MED, Black Sea) D2.5.1.1 • Deliver draft (V0.5) of River Station Lists D2.5.2.1 • Verification round in the ROOS memberships • Decide on exchange format for river data in consultation with EDMS • Select initial NRT data sets for implementation; resolve data access issues • Define and implement procedures for providing data via the EDMS.
