  1. We still have some problems in waveguide components in several-tens of MW level • Possible troubles at • RF dummy load • 3dB hybrid • Directional coupler • Flanges and gaskets • Extruded rectangular pipe • ……. • We want to hear any comment

  2. Waveguide material • Extrusion material • Care, storage, cleaning, … • How much care should be taken in which level? • We made new extrusion with Hitachi • Usually OK with old ones in several-tens of MW • But provably better to use well controlled new ones

  3. Some appearance of E-plane in old one after usuage Before usuage Rare but big inclusion. Not very smooth surface. Visible stains at the high-powered waveguide. We made careful extrusion at Hitachi several years ago and use it but the old ones because of easiness of bending, companies are accustomed to use it unless we specify. We are replacing with this one gradually, but we may need to switch at all our effort.

  4. Waveguide flanges and gaskets • Standardization for boosting collaboration? • good sometime later but not now? • SLAC-unique? • KEK standard, MO type? • MO type not fully evaluated • Flange edge breaking • E-place edge rounded by lapping by hand • Gasket • Material, milled or etched, thickness, ….. • Quality of connection • Sometimes there is visible gap

  5. SLAC vs KEK tedious to prepare transition but for now …….

  6. Typical discharges near flange Discharge marks are frequently seen on the stainless-steel part with round markings of a few mm diameter. We also see similar marking near flanges. What causes these breakdowns? How to suppress? rounding of E-plane edge? Plating? Cleaning? Gasket design? Or ……….

  7. Typical breakdown patterns in simple waveguide Before edge breaking. Observed at early stage of GLCTA in 2002? Originated from flange area?

  8. Gap in 3dB hybrid Arcing at 10MW or low. We think it due to gap of the order of 0.1mm and associated burrs.

  9. Loads • Robust high power load • Better to have robust load to receive full power directly or receive with multiple loads. • Compact medium power load • Better to have compact load for termination downstream of accelerator structure.

  10. Ohtsuka load and tuning We are on the way to modify the design to the electrically longer one.

  11. Lounine load performance change Load with some resonant-like structure is sensitive to deterioration in high power. Need to design robust against high power or take smooth design.

  12. Comments and proposal? • Load • Development and evaluation • KEK • SLAC • CERN • Flange
