Long term changes • - decline in visitors 2001-2007 25% • decline in lending statistics 2001-2007 3% • decline in number of students • increase in distant students • new focus on research • new technology – Internet: Google, e-books, e-journals, wikis, digitalization, mobile telephones… What is the role of the library today?

  10. What will happen to the Combined Library of Härnösand? • less area • new tennants • more focus on ”the supreme task” of each institution? Is this the first steps towards separation? Hope not!

The Vision • The Combined Library is • a link between the municipality and the university • an active part in supporting the democratic values and a the change into a society of knowledge • an aggregated resource of knowledge in order to meet the development of lifelong learning • a place for creativity and contemplation for students, teachers, children, grown-ups etc… • a library for the future • Is it still valid?
