Conclusion • Earth Sensor Satellite folks are pessimistic • Best case is a few WLAN emitters within an 8 X 8 mile square, using 10 dB antennas • No case for WLANs with lower gain antennas • Given that: WLANs / RLANs are currently only a footnote for 5.15-.25GHz in ITU-R Radio Regs • Could WLANs be eliminated from ITU regs? Required Action • Vendor participation is CRITICAL in ITU process to lobby for WLAN spectrum • Involvement in multiple regulatory regions • Participation in Working Parties, Task Groups, Joint Rapporteur Groups • RF Spectrum is a Shared Resource • Creation of a Joint International WLAN forum e.g. 3GPartnershipProject Denis Kuwahara, Boeing
