How the process starts • ‍Candidate may contact AIM SA directly or via SkillsBuilder site • ‍As soon as possible after contact from Candidate AIM SA Assessment Advisor to arrange Competency Conversation • ‍AIM SA will allocate the Candidate with a logon and password if they contacted AIM SA directly • ‍Where the Candidate contacts AIM SA via SkillsBuilder, they will already have a logon and password • ‍SkillsBuilder automatically advises AIM SA that a Candidate has selected to undertake RPL with AIM SA triggering standard administrative processes ‍Enrolment should happen prior to Step 1, or as last stage of Step 1 or may happen during Step 2: Evidence Gathering

  3. ‍Step 1: Competency conversation • ‍Interview recorded (audio file or, where possible audio & video) • ‍Use Skype to call Candidate (either Skype to Skype audio, Skype to Skype audio & video, or Skype to telephone audio) ‍ Aim of Competency Conversation: • ‍explain the RPL process • ‍clarify Candidate's expectations of and objectives for RPL process • ‍relevant Candidate details • ‍description of Candidate's relevant experience & skills • ‍help Candidate identify what might be useful evidence, where to get it and how to organise it for submission • ‍provide guidance about using the RPL tools available to support gathering, organising and submitting evidence

Step 1 continued • ‍Once the Candidate has confirmed that they will proceed with RPL process they submit the enrolment form • Once enrolled AIM SA administrators can enter enrolment details on SkillsBuilder (ID, whether paid or not) check selected units of competency for compliance with qualification rules and forward any necessary additional information to assist the candidate • At this point an assessor will be allocated by AIM SA The Assessor will make contact with the Candidate via SkillsBuilder

  5. ‍Step 2: Evidence Gathering & Assessment • ‍Candidate gathers evidence - ‍Files (Word docs, Spreadsheets, files, audio, video, images, PDF, links) uploaded to SkillsBuilder site • ‍Using SkillsBuilder candidate can use same item of evidence for multiple Units of Competency / Elements simply by drag & dropping to desired location without loosing from holding site • ‍All evidence remains the property of the Candidate - they simply move a copy to a site that allows the Assessor to see it • ‍As each piece of evidence is moved to the relevant Unit of Competency, the Candidate adds a note to the assessor - this note can qualify, clarify, explain or add to the evidence

Step 2 continued • ‍Throughout the process, if either wishes to do so, the Candidate and the Assessor can be in contact (via SkillsBuilder's Personal Message Board (PMB) or via email or phone • ‍Ongoing communication allows the Assessor and the Candidate to work through any questions, concerns or issues before the final submission and assessment of the evidence - in this way the RPL process also becomes a learning process • ‍The Assessor is also able to record/document and upload any conversations with or notes about the Candidate so these can be added to the body of evidence

  7. ‍Step 3: Results • ‍Once sufficient, relevant, authentic, current evidence is submitted by the Candidate, the Assessor will determine competence • ‍A result will be posted on the SkillsBuilder site and the Candidate will be automatically notified of the result • ‍SlillsBuilder allows the Candidate to compile and print a report of competencies achieved for future reference • ‍SkillBuilder automatically advises AIMSA Administrators of the results - this will trigger production of transcripts and certificates as required • ‍AIM SA can also then contact the Candidate to discuss additional/ gap training and pathways for further qualifications
