  2. The Changing Nature of Data • Purpose: • Provide an overview of special education data currently collected, how it can be used to build 21st Century Schools, and how the data is used to meet local, state, and federal requirements.

  3. The Changing Nature of Data • What special education data is currently collected? • Special Education Student Information System (SESIS) • Assessment Data • Discipline Report • Compliance Data • Perceptual Data

  4. The Changing Nature of Data ILCD STARS and Results Matter • The special education data is used in multiple ways… Performance Data (e.g. graduation/dropout rates) State Performance Plan and Annual Performance Report Federal Reports

The Changing Nature of Data • District Program Improvement: • Improving Learning for Children with Disabilities (ILCD) • Self assessment process for improving special education services • Eight (8) Inquiries • Data reviewed during self assessment: file review, surveys, data calculated from SESIS submission, discipline reports, State Performance Plan, etc. • Connected to the district Continuous Improvement Process

The Changing Nature of Data • Federal Requirements: • State Performance Plan and Annual Performance Report • New requirement for all states • Report baseline data for required indicators • Establish targets • Coordinate improvement activities and resources • States report on progress meeting the targets through the Annual Performance Report

The Changing Nature of Data • Federal Requirements: Public Reporting • State Performance Plan and Annual Performance Report • District progress against the state targets must be publicly reported annually • This summary will be accessed on the State of the Schools Report • Data will be protected using masking criteria • Districts will use the established 10 day window to view the data before pubic release
