  2. Coaching Limitations • MBB = 4 • WBB = 4 • Football = 11 • Golf = 2 • Soccer = 3 • Swimming & Diving = 3 • Tennis (M&W) = 2 • XC/T&F (M) = 3 • XC/T&F (W) = 3 • Volleyball = 3 These limits do not apply to student-assistant coaches.

  3. Off-campus recruiters • There shall be a limit on the number of coaches who may contact or evaluate prospective student-athletes off-campus at any one time. • MBB = 3 • WBB = 3 • Football = 7 • Golf = 2 • Soccer = 2 • S&D = 2 • Tennis (M&W) = 2 • XC/T&F (M) = 2 • XC/T&F (W) = 2 • Volleyball = 2

  4. Volunteer Coaches • Permitted in sports other than football and basketball • May use the services of one (1) volunteer coach • Indoor T&F, outdoor T&F, and cross country are separate sports. • Institutions that compete in pole vault may use the services of one additional volunteer coach. • NAU may have up to 4 volunteers for our T&F program • Swimming and diving are considered separate sports, so NAU may have 2 volunteers. • The volunteer coach agreement needs to be signed and filed with compliance.

  5. Boosters/Parents Providing Meals • Occasional meals can be provided by a booster and/or a parent. • The occasional meal form needs to be filled out and signed by the booster or parent. • The meal must take place at the home of the booster or parent. • The meal can be catered. • The meal cannot take place at a restaurant. If the booster wants to pay for a meal, they can make a donation to the program in that amount. • They should not pay for the meal directly!

  6. Individual Workouts • Individual consultation with a coaching staff member initiated voluntarily by a student-athlete is not a countable athletically related activity, provided any discussion between the coach and the student-athlete is limited to general counseling activities and does not involve activities set forth in 17.02.12.1 (e.g., chalk talk; use of equipment relating to the sport; field, floor or on-court activity). • Any activity that involves the activities set forth in 17.02.12.1 must be logged in the weekly athletically related activities log.

  7. The NCAA always seems to over rule!

Assistant Coaches • Bylaw 11.1.2 - It shall be the responsibility of an institution's head coach to promote an atmosphere for compliance within the program supervised by the coach and to monitor the activities regarding compliance of all assistant coaches and other administrators involved with the program who report directly or indirectly to the coach • Loyalty to NAU • Appeal by Asst. Coach at Indiana • Lacking credibility • Warrant significant penalties
