  2. WWI end to WWII beginning • Germany felt that the war guilt clause was unfair • Lost overseas colonies which meant no raw goods to fuel local economy • Reparations were impossible to pay • League of Nations was weak • Weak govt. (Weimar Republic) • Used to autocratic leadership

  3. Help comes slowly • Treaty of Locarno • France and Germany define their borders • Dawes Plan • The US in 1924 offer a 200 million dollar loan to Germany and ease the burden of Reparations • Rentenmark replaces Mark

Soviet Union • Who led? • Stalin • What changes were made? • Takes away private property (collectivization) • Communist (form of socialism) • Marxist –sudden violent overthrow of • The government by the proletariat • 5 year plan: take over of farms and factories but millions of people starve to death as a result

Germany • Who led? • Adolf Hitler • What changes were made? • Builds an army of Nazi’s (political party) SS (military elite) • A lot of public works projects to help out and give people jobs • Supports Aryans (white blonde blue eyed group of Germans) • Anti Jew- Holocaust (killed 6 million Jews and other non Aryans) • Fuherer establish the third Reich • Lebensraum: Living Space • Book of main ideas= Mein Kampf

  6. Italy • Who led? • Benito Mussolini • What changes were made? • Fascist • After WWI they get nothing • Uses his army and establishes the Black Shirts (his army) march on Rome and take the government by force

  7. Spain • Who led? • Francesco Franco • What changes were made? • Fascist • Gains help from Hitler and Mussolini • This is the first time they become friends

  8. America • What changes were made? • FDR started the New Deal to assist with the Great Depression • 2nd New Deal intensified govt. spending and offered millions of jobs to Americans • Govt. involvement increases
