SATURN: Objective

The SATURN trial examined the impact of rosuvastatin (40 mg) versus atorvastatin (80 mg) on coronary atherosclerosis progression in 1385 symptomatic CAD patients. Participants with LDL-C levels above 80 mg/dL were randomized to receive either medication. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) was used to assess changes in atheroma volume over 24 months. Results indicated a median change in percent atheroma volume, with significant findings for both treatments, highlighting LDL-C's role in atherosclerosis progression.
