  2. Our town is situated in the north of the Czech Republic, itislocatedbetweenOreMountains and České středohoří - Czech MiddleMountains. • Althoughitis not a big towntoday (it has 66882 inhabitants), itplaysanimportant role in thewhole region.

  3. History • The first reference about the existence of Most comes from 1040 and it can be found in the Cosma’s Czech Chronicle. • Most was at the beginning a settlement with a market place on a crossway of the old long-distance roads. • The market place developed in an important economic centre in connection with the growing significance of the castle, which has been built in the years 1238-1248 instead of the original stronghold on the hill Hněvín. • At the end of the 13th century has Most a characteristic look of a gothic town and fulfils a role of a new economical and socially-juridical formation. • At the end of the 15th century was Most a rich town on the way of a good economic development. The hopefully outlooks for a development were defeated by a big fire in 1515. Fortunately, buildings destroyed by the fire have been renewed in a short time

  4. In the 16th century was Most in a difficult financial situation, it was caused by wars and the pest. • During the Thirty Years War the Swedish troops occupied and plundered Most and they demolished the castle Hněvín as well. • In the 18th century the economic conditions of the town began to consolidate. • The life in the town was influenced by the Napoleon wars at the beginning of the 19th century, as the territory of Most became a passage region for the troops. • At the end of the 19th century the increasing mining of coal began to change the face of the town. The number of inhabitants raised quickly. • In the second half of 20th century the town had to make way for brown coal mining and according to it on the other side of the river was established new city of Most.

  5. Present time Most is a busy modern town today. Architectural plans were made in large scale and the layout of wide streets with wide parks can be today compared to big European cities. Modern town doesn’t forget about it’s history, it tries to zoom it to present people.
