  4. Stephan the Great He was born in 1433, Borzeşti ,and he died on the 2nd of July 1504, Suceava. Bogdan II’s son, he was the sovereign of Moldavia from 1457 to 1504.

  5. On te 2nd of July 1504 after a reign of 47 years and 3 months Stephan the Great died and was buried in the Putna Monastery that was built during his time.

  6. Suceava – The Throne Citadel • The Throne of Citadel was certified on the 11th of February 1388. Its insides were partially restaured, so that they can show us the court life and the temporary residence of the Moldavian princes. • From Stephan’s order the citadel was strongly fortified by a wall that surrounds the old fort. • In 1476 a “curtain” of walls was made, thick of 1,5 m having at the ends defending square towers 15 m tall. • The Citadel wa surround by a very broard defending dich.

  7. PUTNA MONASTERY Built between 1466 - 1469Built by Stephan the Great Site: Putna, Suceava countyThe present church was rebuilt between 1653 – 1662 by Vasile Lupu and his successors.

  9. He was born on the 26th of October 1673 in Silisteni. His father was the caverly commander .When he was 15 he was sent to Constantinople where he continued his studies at the Greek Acadamy. After his father’s death he was the sovereign of Moldovia in 1693,but the Sublime Porte would confirm his brother Antioh.

  10. DimitrieCantemir DIMITRIE CANTEMIR He lived in Balat Palace in Fanar until 1710. He was a writer, a historian, a philosopher, a geographer, a folklorist, a mathematician, an architect, a composer and a polyglot. Besides Romania he could speak Greek, Russian, German, Italian,Persian and Turkish. In 1690 he wrote Kitab-i ilmi’ – Musiki ala Vechi’l Hurufat in Turkish.

  11. Costache Negri was the son of a rich nobleman. When the 1848 revolution broke out he was in Paris where he enrolled as a volunteer in the revolutionary gards and he presented the new Romanian tricolor to the French goverment As a politician and patriot after 1851 he had the first public funtion – administratror of Covurlui.

  12. In 1855 Costache Negri began his diplomatic career and he became the most well-known Romanian diplomat during the next decade.

  13. ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA ( 1859 – 1866) He was born on the 20th of March 1820 and died on the 15th May in Heidelverg, Germany. He was the first sovereign of the modern Romania.

CUZA ‘s achievements A talented soverreign,diplomat and politician; In 1860 he founder the University and the Conservatory of Music in Iasi; The primary educational system became compulsory and free. On the 24th of December 1860 Cuza declared the existence of the Romanian state with its capital in Bucharest.

  15. The Situation of the Romanian Contryes On the 5th of January 1859 in Iasi he was elected sovereign of Moldavia; On the 24th of January in Bucharest he was also elected sovereign of Wallachia; In this was the Romanians achieved the Union of The Romanian Principalities;

  16. Cuza’s Abdication He had to abdicate on the 11th of February 1866; He was first buried in the Domneasca Church near the Ruginoasa Palace, then his bones was moved in the Treierarhi Church in Iasi.
