  2. What is Desktop Publishing? • A software for creating visual displays of ideas • tools to control type, graphics, and the layout and design of pages • create footnotes and endnotes, to generate tables of contents and indexes

  3. ..Before Desktop Publishing • E-scales, pasteup, and other non-desktop computer ways • Adobe PageMaker 7 • Adobe InDesign version 2 • QuarkXPress version 5 • Adobe FrameMaker version 7 • Corel VENTURA version 8

  4. Advantages of Desktop Publishing • enables a small business or an individual to produce professional-quality materials • in-house control for updating and editing products

  5. What types of documents can businesses produce with Desktop Publishing software? • General publications and graphics • Long, multi-chapter documents • Publications with tabular material

  6. Compare at least three software programs that are available to do Desktop Publishing tasks. • Adobe PageMaker version 7: came out in 2002, on both Macintosh and Windows, has a full set of basic tools for creating general publications, flyers, brochures, and other items • Adobe InDesign version 2: came out in 1999, easy enough to be used by less-skilled desktop publishers, set of basic tools for creating magazines, newsletters, newspapers, flyers, brochures, advertisements, large format posters, and other items • Corel VENTURA version 8: came out in 1998, tools for creating books, catalogs, journals, scientific, academic, technical, and other multi-chapter documents
