Understanding Bipolar Disorder: Types, Causes, and Effects

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, causes significant shifts in mood, energy, thinking, and behavior. There are several types, including Bipolar I, which features classic manic and depressive episodes, and Bipolar II, which presents with similar depressive episodes but less severe mania. Cyclothymia is a milder type with chronic hypomanic and depressive episodes lasting at least two years. Causes include genetic predisposition, biological factors affecting serotonin and dopamine, and environmental triggers like stress. Bipolar disorder can lead to serious psychological and physiological effects, including suicidal thoughts, mood elevation, and concentration issues.
