There are several types, including Bipolar I, which features classic manic and depressive episodes, and Bipolar II, which presents with similar depressive episodes but less severe mania. Cyclothymia is a milder type with chronic hypomanic and depressive episodes lasting at least two years. Causes include genetic predisposition, biological factors affecting serotonin and dopamine, and environmental triggers like stress. Bipolar disorder can lead to serious psychological and physiological effects, including suicidal thoughts, mood elevation, and concentration issues.

Different types.... • Bipolar 1 – Classic type. Individuals experience manic and depressive episode of varying lengths. • Bipolar 2- Depressive episode are the same as bipolar 1. • Cyclothymia – Chronic but milder form, episodes of hypomania and depression that last 2 years. • Mixed episodes- Mania and depression occur simultaneously. You feel hapless and depressed yet energetic.
Causes of bipolar disorder • Genetic- tends to run in families • Biological- serotonin and dopamine don’t function properly in individuals with bipolar disorder. • Environmental- Stress or a major life event may trigger a biological disorder.
Psychological and physiological effects • Suicidal thoughts • Elevated mood • Low mood • Rapid cycling • Mood thinking and concentration problems
