  3. Terms Defined • Telecommunication- the use of voice, video or data transport • Instructional technology – the use of technology to support learning • Information technology – the use of technology to manage, process, and distribute information in digital and other forms.

  4. Forward Thinking • The district serves a small rural community and is dedicated to growth and expansion through incentives for new homeowners and businesses. To remain forward thinking the district continually monitors the demographics of the unit school district such as student population, academic achievement, and budget needs.

  5. Instructional Technology • Our vision will support instructional technology by giving our staff and students the tools that they need to provide and encourage implementation of student‐centered learning and application in the classroom that will be transferred to the workplace and promote life‐long learning.

  6. Information Technology • Informational technology – The district will provide tools that include up‐to‐date systems, hardware, infrastructure and software that house numerous data and information systems. Some of the data available to parents, teacher and administrators for reporting, data collection and analysis and decision-making are: Illinois Interactive Report Card, IWAS, testing results, and Power School.

  7. Telecommunications • The district will provide telecommunications to staff, parents and the community in a multitude of ways, including telephone access to each classroom, high speed internet access, cellular phone systems, and two way radios. High-speed, filtered Internet connections are available on all computers and laptops. Peripheral devices such as LCD projectors, interactive whiteboards and document cameras are available for staff and students to use to support teaching and learning.

District Technology Plan Facts and Timelines • District Technology Plans are housed on the Interactive Illinois Report Card (iirc) website – (https://iirc.niu.edu/MyIIRC/Home.aspx) • The same user name and password that is used for the DIP is used for the District Technology Plan. • It is recommended that you create some portions of the DTP in a word document and cut and paste to the online DTP. • DTPs can only be submitted for approval via the myIIRC. Paper copies will not be accepted. • DTPs are created, submitted, and approved for a three years. • Due Date: Feb. 28, 2014

  9. Peer Review – What is it? • Peer Reviews will no longer be conducted. • ALL plans will be read and evaluated by ISBE. • ISBE is the Certified Technology Plan Approver for all public K-12 districts in Illinois.

District Technology Plan(DTP) Vision – No longer a separate part of DTP • Vision can be a district vision or separate technology vision • Statement or clarity of how the vision supports telecommunication, instructional technology and information technology if not addressed in the vision statement(can be a bulleted list) • Any language that indicates the district is planning into the future beyond the three year plan

District Technology Plan(DTP) Step 2 - Action Plan Overview Overall review of the Action Plan (Repeat for FY14, FY15, and FY16) • Goals – Key initiatives the district is committed to achieving – Aligns with analysis and identified needs • Briefly state the title of the goal (s) • Describe current student achievement levels • S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) • Clear and tightly focused on the fundamental teaching and learning issues that have prevented the district from making AYP • Promote continuous and substantial growth • Must be written to target student performance that meets AYP or Safe Harbor • No more than two goals

  17. According to the 2013 ISBE AYP District Report Card, 88.8% of “All” students made AYP in reading and 94.6% made AYP in math. In each year of this plan, “All” students will meet AYP targets and all subgroups will meet AYP or Safe Harbor targets based on state standardized tests Goal - Sample

District Technology Plan(DTP) Overall review of the Action Plan • Strategies and activities have a technology focus and cover all three years of the plan. • Include a start and end date • Are supported by conclusions drawn by data analysis • Align with state and national standards which support advanced technology used to improve student academic achievement • Align with state and national standards for using advanced technology used to improve student academic achievement utilizing telecommunications, instructional technology and informational technology services • include specific step-by-step process to achieve the strategy • Include how students in high-poverty/high-needs schools are being helped, if applicable

District Technology Plan(DTP) Step 3 – Monitoring and Evaluation For each section of the action plan the following are identified: • Monitoring tool(s) • Progress indicator(s) • Evaluation frequency • Name of person responsible • How will district personnel monitor the effectiveness of strategies and activities toward the achievement of the goals and how changes would be made if needed

  25. CIPA Checklist #1 • Technology Protection Measure • Device to filter or block internet access to visual depictions that: • are obscene, • are child pornography, and/or • are harmful to minors.

  27. Ways to NOT Pass the First Time • Don’t enter a CIPA Policy number. • Only do one phase (year) of the three phase (year) plan. • Don’t answer all Plan Writing Considerations and Plan Template Questions. • Strategies and Activities are only on focused boxes and wires, not instruction .
