  3. Degree Completion Program

  4. If you are a first semester college student starting college for the first time after high school (and have taken no college courses other than while in high school or the summer after), you may be eligible to participate in the eight semester degree completion program. This program is your assurance - if you follow and successfully complete a recommended sequence of courses and requirements- that you can graduate in eight semesters. Before you register for the fall semester- if you are a first semester college student, you must sign a document to state your intention regarding participation in this program. You will sign the document during the session with your academic adviser at Orientation. Please use this web site to help you make your decision and prepare for Orientation in the following ways: Read the eight-semester policy carefully to see how the program will work. Look at the List of Colleges and Majors to see which are included in the eight-semester program and see if the one you want to pursue is there. (More than 95 percent of U of A majors can be pursued under an eight-semester degree program. A few majors that require a summer internship or summer field class are not included, but can still be finished in four years with study during a summer term. Some, like Architecture, take longer.) Click on the major in the list of Colleges and Majors in which you are interested and review the major for completing the program in eight semesters.

  5. Review the document that you will be required to sign before you can register. If you have questions, phone or send an e-mail to your college or school (e-mail addresses and phone numbers are below) or make a note of the questions you want to ask during Orientation. Be sure to identify yourself as a New Fall Freshman. Students who qualify and choose to participate in honors programs do so in addition to meeting degree program requirements in the major. The honors curriculum requires a high level of performance and encourages study abroad, research, and personalized learning options that require an individualized plan of study. For these reasons, while degree completion can be guaranteed for majors in the eight-semester program, and while students in the honors program typically complete their degrees with honors in four years, graduation with honors cannot be guaranteed in eight semesters. Honors advisers in each college as well as in the Honors College are available to answer questions regarding all aspects of honors study and to assist students in choosing options and identifying requirements so that they can complete the eight-semester program and graduate with honors. We look forward to seeing you at Orientation and having you on campus this fall.
