  1. Soccer Quiz Lets get Started … In the following Digital Story, it is your job to decide what happens next in this game of Soccer. The aim of this digital story is to correctly answer the questions using your knowledge of the rules in soccer and how plays will follow out.

  2. There are two teams playing in the grand final for Under 18’s. One team is called the Marlins and the other Fury. The Marlins have lost two games in the competition, whilst Fury have lost only once but currently have two players short due to injury. This therefore means they have only two substitutes, whilst the other team has four. Can the referee allow someone in the same club as Fury play up in the under 18’s for this game? No Yes

  3. Correct Option A Option B The game begins and in the first 5 minutes a goal is scored by Fury but isn’t counted because the goalie and sweeper from Marlins claimed the Fury attacker was offside. Offside means? Option A: The attacker was behind the last defender before receiving the ball. Option B: The attacker scored the goal too close to the goal box.

  4. Incorrect Back to the Beginning In a standard week to week game players from the same club of a younger age can play up, but not in any quarter, semi or grand final.

  5. Correct The ball is kicked out by a Marlins player and it is Fury’s throw in. The throw, in is called a foul. There are two possible reasons for a foul, are they… Option A: Lifting the back foot and not throwing it over a particular distance. Option B: Lifting the back foot and rotating your upper body. Option A Option B

  6. Incorrect • The answer was the attacker was behind the last defender before receiving the ball. Back to the Beginning

  7. Incorrect • The answer was option B. Lifting the back foot and rotating your upper body. Back to the Beginning

  8. Correct No Yes Two players are in chase of the ball, one from each team. As they are running the referee gets in their way and falls over due two both players momentum. Does the referee give a yellow card to either players? Yellow card is a warning card in the game, if they receive two they are sent off.

  9. Incorrect • Neither player would receive a yellow card here as it is the referees job to make sure that he or she does not interrupt plays. If it was intentional however a yellow or even red card could be given. Back to the Beginning

  10. Correct Option B Option A It gets to the final minutes of the game and there is a draw between the two teams. With the intensity of the game building, the dirtier the plays get. Both teams have had at least one player from each team receive a yellow card. There is a pass from the Fury midfielder to the Fury attacker who has a shot at goal. The defenders from the Marlins begin to close in when a midfielder from the Marlins takes out the attacker from behind by slide tackling causing the Fury player to fall and lose the ball. The Fury player then gets up and starts to abuse the midfielder who made the attack by swearing, pushing and shoving. The referee should: Option A: Give the Fury player a yellow card and send the Marlins midfielder off. Option B: Send both players off.

  11. Incorrect • Option B was the answer: Send both players off. This is because swearing and retaliation is not accepted to any extent in the game of soccer as well as slide tackling. Slide tackling is against the rules and is very dangerous. Back to the Beginning

  12. Correct The eighty minutes is up and the score is still two goals each. The referee then … Option A: Calls it a draw. Option B: has a shoot out. Option C: Continues the game until the next goal. Option A Option B Option C

  13. Incorrect • The answer was Option B. The referee would call for a shoot out until someone scored. Unfortunately you have unsuccessfully completed the last question.
