  1. Production Database Preshower Silicon PRR July 5, 2001 Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  2. Production Database Goal: To keep information on all Preshower parts during the production and construction phase for quality control and for later use in debugging and calibration. Some of production parts and centers: • Silicon Sensor: Russia, Taiwan, India,Greece • Ceramics: Armenia • Readout Hybrid: CERN • Aluminium Tile: Greece • Motherboard: Taiwan =>Need a distributed system to enter data while parts are being produced at different sites Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  3. Database Selection CRISTAL: • Developed by ECAL team for the crystal production. (Already >15Gbyte of data) • More than a database (Objectivity): it manages the production and quality control; well-defined step-by-step workflow for each part. • Built-in data handling over the network (CORBA). Well suited for our need. • A unique14-digit barcode is assigned to each part for easy data entry and retrieval at any stage of construction. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  4. Demokritos India NCU Architecture • Data entered at the regional centers with well-defined workflow to ensure production quality. • Automatic data transfer to a central database at CERN. • Data can be retrieved using queries to the central database from anywhere in the world for further analysis. CERN Regional Centers Central Storage TCP/IP (CORBA) Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  5. Regional Center A regional center consists of database server on an NT4 machine and one or more computers for measurements and operator data entry. Operator Entry NT4 Instruments/LabView LAN (TCP/IP) Local Center Database server Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  6. Alternative Data Entry Alternative method: instead of having local center database, remotely login to CERN SiLab local center and enter data into it. • Yerevan and Dubna will use this method As a backup method, ascii data files can be sent to CERN and entered to the CERN SiLab local center database. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  7. Silicon Production Workflow Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  8. Production Information • Production Information:production date, batch number, serial number, wafer type and wafer batch number. Useful for sensor tracking and debugging Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  9. Inspection, Geometry and Thickness • Visual Inspection: visible defect, scratches. • Geometrical compliance: fit the jig (less than 63mm). • Thickness of the sensor An operator perform these checks and enter into CRISTAL manually. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  10. Static Characteristics • Either CV or IV can be measured first, this enables the usage of one instument setup for both CV and IV. • Only after both IV and CV are done, the static characteristics are computed. • Static Measurement: IV, CV & Full Depletion Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  11. IV Measurements • Labview program initiate communication with the local center • Requests the status for the sensor • Gets the parameters for the measurement. • Measure current of the 32 strips at different voltages • Displays results. • Pack and send the results to the database IV measurement: Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  12. CV Measurements • LabView program initiate communication with the local center • Requests the status for the sensor • Gets the parameters for the measurement. • Measure capacitance of the 32 strips at different voltages • Displays results. • Pack and send the results to the database CV measurement: Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  13. Vfd Full Depletion and Breakdown CRISTAL launches automatically a Java code to compute the full depletion voltage and current, breakdown voltage using the IV & CV results: • Full depletion voltage: • Current at Vfd and V=300 volt can be computed from the IV curve (by linear interpolation) for each strip. • Breakdown voltage (Vbr) also from IV and is define as DI/DV > = 1mA/V (also by linear interpolation). Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  14. Non-Conformity Assignment • Last step in Silicon production is to compute the non-conformity flags for the final acceptance / rejection. Done automatically by user code (Java). Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  15. Ceramics Production Workflow • Ceramics Qualification: • Size OK? • Interrupted HV trace? • Thickness • Accept or reject? Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  16. Micromodule Production Workflow • Micromodule consists of 4 parts: • Silicon sensor (at Regional Centers) • Ceramics support (ship from Armenia to CERN to Regional Centers) • Readout Hybrid (ship from CERN to RC) • Aluminium Tile (ship from Greece to CERN to RC) • Assembly sequence: Shipment of data are done by CRISTAL from one regional center to the destination center via the central storage. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  17. Data Access: Browser Look at data by part type and barcode; hardware view. All Parts and its location are easily traceable by the barcode Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  18. Data Access: Query Look at data by its characteristics; Physicist view. Scripts (OQL) is used to define query criteria Data can be queried both to the local center and central database from anywhere in the world. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  19. Status: Software • User-friendly GUI for the Query has been implemented on both central and local centers. • Few scripts have been written to extract full depletion voltage, current and sensor summary etc. • Centrally managed query program (using Sun’s Web Start) is implemented at CERN, NCU and Demokritos. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  20. Status: Hardware • Local Centers have been installed at CERN, NCU, Demokritos and Ioannina. Both CERN, NCU and Demokritos have entered IV and CV measurements data automatically using instruments under LabView. • Delhi and BEL (India) will soon implement the local centers. • Central database computer cmsobj02.cern.ch is operational and data has been succesfull transferred from all installed local centers. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  21. Work to do • Finishing the installation of local centers at BEL and Delhi. • Implement more workflows for Readout Hybrid qualification and Micromodule production. • Write more standard query scripts for physicists to access data. • Implement noise measurement workflow details. Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan

  22. Conclusion • Database for Preshower production has been implemented using CRISTAL package. • R&D data are entered routinely at local centers and then transferred to the central storage. • Queries are operational allowing easy data access for the physicists. • More info are onCMS Internal Note 2000/49 • User Guide athttp://home.cern.ch/goapollo/DBUserGuide/ Apollo Go, NCU Taiwan
