American Entrepreneur Scene • Education and social system encourages team work and risk taking. • Research oriented academic environment • Universities are working on the cutting edge of their field . • Intellectual IP is the largest asset than the capital. • Strong private equity participation and risk taking.

  5. American Scene • Govt. funding research in mostly academic long term and defense related topics . And its utilized mostly by big companies. • Govt. funded and university run incubators have produced no significant results and they are used by the faculty to fund graduate research. • Academicians don’t fit in the role of a entrepreneurs.

  6. Asian Entrepreneurs Scene • Most of the economy is manufacturing or services based for local and export consumption. • Education System is pretty much based on old colonial style to run factory and service Industry. No reward for research. And severe shortage of qualified staff. • Industrialists have little respect for Intellectuals .

  7. Asian Scene • Limited local Private Capital source and Private Capital is only from foreign sources. • Govt. Venture funds acts like a bank and have limited funds for grants and very bureaucratic. • Present social structure tend to produce less out of box thinkers and more implementers.

Asian Scene • Govt. policies favor more Multi Nationals and big Industrial houses than Entrepreneurs. • Not enough local knowledge and mentoring for start up. • Young folks look for a big fat job package from a Multi National or Local Company than risk start up. • Multi National Companies see a good source for out sourcing and would discourage innovations.

Summary • America is still home for out of box thinker and innovators . • Small Scale start ups are one of largest employers in America. • Asian countries have to change their thinking from Traders to Innovators. • Asian Education System has to change to produce out of box thinkers and reward risk taking

  10. Summary • Entrepreneurs are born and can not be engineered. • Politicians and Bureaucrats are running the Education and Industrial policies than professionals. • Indian IT Industry needs to diversify to cover broad spectrum. • India needs to define its IT vision for the next decade now.
