  1. Integer Rules When computing or solving problems using integers, use the following integer rules.

  2. Adding Integers • When adding integers with like signs, use the following rule: • LIKE SIGNS --- ADD---→ Keep the same sign Examples: • 6 + 6 = 12-6 + -6 = -12

  3. Adding Integers • When adding integers with different signs use the following rule: • DIFFERENT SIGNS ---SUBTRACT---→ take the sign of the larger number Examples: -5 + 8 = 3 4 + -12 = -8

  4. Multiplying Integers • When multiplying integers with like signs use the following rule: • LIKE SIGNS - - -→ The answer will always be positive Examples: 6 x 6 = 36 3 x 9 = 27 -5 x -4 = 20 -3 x -9 = 27

  5. Multiplying Integers • When multiplying integers with different signs use the following rule: • DIFFERENT SIGNS - - -→The answer will always be a negative Examples: 6 x -3 = -18-12 x 5 = -60

  6. Dividing Integers • When dividing integers with like signs, use the following rule: LIKE SIGNS - - - →The answer will always be a positive Examples: 24 ÷ 3 = 8 -36 ÷ -4 = 9

  7. Dividing Integers • When dividing integers with different signs use the following rule: DIFFERENT SIGNS - - -→The answer will always be a negative Examples: 48 ÷ -4 = -12-50 ÷ 5 = -10

  8. Subtracting Integers • When subtracting integers use the following rule: • Add its opposite. • (Hint: use SCR - Same, Change, Reciprocal) • Examples: • -16 — (-4) = -12 -24 — (4) = -28 • S C R S C R • -16 + 4 = -12 -24 + (-4) = -28
