  4. Routines- Homework • Spellings- age appropriate and differentiated (Some children have additional sessions). Regular practise is essential. In diary Monday and tested the following Monday. Year 5/6 spelling word list and RWI year 6 booklet. • Reading - Encourage your child to read every night. Please sign and comment in your child’s diary each time they read. Discuss with your children what they are reading and ask questions to secure understanding. Reading diaries and reading books should be in school every day. • Mathematics and Literacy homework – Sent home on a Thursday, due back following Tuesday/Wednesday. Encourage children to complete independently but support if needed. May be online (Education city/spag.com/mathletics) • Mental maths – short bursts – multiplication/division/addition/subtraction. • Please check reading diaries and sign weekly.

  5. Routines- independence • Reading books, reading diaries, PE kits should be in school every day. • PE on Monday/Thursday. • Homework- It is the children’s responsibility to hand homework in on time. Please support them!

  7. Spelling • Year 5/6 wordlist (see website) • Read, write Inc. Year 6 booklet Helpful Strategies • Look, cover, write, check • Spelling the word within a sentence • Look for patterns and rules • Mnemonics • Puzzles (hangman/crossword) • Rainbow words/letters/sounds/syllables

  8. Mental Maths Confident mental addition, subtraction, Multiplication and division are all essential. • Times tables • 6 x 4 = 24 • 60 x 4 = 240 • 240 ÷ 4 = 60 (24 ÷ 4 = 6)

  9. Written Calculations • Good mental maths knowledge is essential. • The children will always be given time to learn, consolidate and use these methods. • They will always be expected to use and apply these methods when solving real life problems.

  10. Maths- Written CalculationsAddition Mainly using the compact (column) method (with carrying) Th H T U + Th H T U = Numbers with any amount of digits Addition of two or more decimals of up to four digits with up to two decimal places.
