How will I be graded? • By your homework, class work, projects, quizzes, essays, and tests • Projects, Tests, Essays, and Readers Responses = 100 points each • AOTWs = 20 points • Quizzes = 20 points • Classwork = 10 points • Formative Assessments = checked off • Grades will be given out in Interim Reports every 4 ½ weeks • Bonus points are available 

  19. Guideline #1 • Be in your assigned seat and begin working on the warm-up on the board before the tardy bell rings. • Warm-up Worksheet

  20. What Warm-ups Look Like

  21. Guideline #2 • Bring ALL classroom books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave. • Blue/Black ink pens and pencils • Special Pencil rule

  22. Guideline #3 • Follow all directions the FIRST time they are given.

  23. Guideline #4 • Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.

  24. Guideline #5 • Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the DRMS and Wake County Schools student handbook.

  25. Special Guideline • This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means there will be no whining for any reason. • Everything I do is in your best interest, so please… respect the “No Whining Zone” guideline.

  27. 8th Grade Team Policies • Gum: • Do not have this at any time • Cell phones: • Lock them in your lockers or put them in the bucket at the front of the classroom (If it goes off here, it’s “safe”) • Special Rule for Cell Phones • Only have these out in the classroom with teacher permission for technology BYOD lessons • Book bags: • Put these in your lockers

  28. Following Guidelines will result in… • Verbal Acknowledgement • A stress-free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly atmosphere • And… SPLASH TICKETS!!!

  29. SPLASH Ticket Prizes • Put tickets in the SPLASH box at lunch for quarterly prizes • Earn team SPLASH awards for good behavior!

  30. Severe Clause • Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes property of the teacher and of other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY.

  32. Entering the Room • Please enter quietly • Have a seat • Take out your materials • Review the agenda • Begin opening assignment

  33. When you are tardy… • Enter quietly • Show me your SIGNED pass to class • Take out your materials

  34. Getting Your Attention • I will: • Stand at the front of the class • Raise my hand and say “Give me three” • Wait for everyone to be quiet and raise his/her hand as well • Begin speaking

  38. After an EXCUSED absence: • Go the “Make-up Work” folder • Take the Make-up Work/any other hand-outs with your name on them • You are responsible for making up your work and Extra Copies are posted on my website

  41. Scheduled Check-outs • Please let me know as you enter the classroom • I will be at the door as you enter • Quietly raise your hand to get my attention • Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time • If it is an emergency, quickly get my attention and I will assist you

  42. Agendas • Use these to write your homework down EVERY day • Yes, even if the homework is “Nothing” • I will check these as you leave class each day

  43. What’s the Hall Pass Look Like? • Your agenda is your hall pass • No agenda= No hall pass • No hall pass= You do not go anywhere • You must use your 8th Grade Track 1 EXIT Passes to leave during classtime (locker, bathroom, water, etc.)

  44. Turning in Papers • Pass to the center of the room and then forward to the front row • Mrs. Richardson will come around and collect the work

  45. Where are the OUTBOX and Make-up Work Folders?

  46. Classroom Discussions • PLEASE participate • I want to hear what you have to say • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current topic/situation • If your question is off the topic, please write it down and ask later

  47. Bathroom Breaks, Locker time, and Office Visits • Go before class begins • In case of Emergency: • You can leave class if there is an extreme emergency

  48. Food… mmmm… I’m Hungry • Leave all food in your lockers or the cafeteria • NO FOOD in the classrooms for any reason

  49. Lunch at 10:50am • We will line up as a Track (Ahead of the other two Tracks on the 8th grade hall) • Walk in a single file line down to the Cafeteria • Get in line to get your lunch • We sit on the side of the Cafeteria closest to Courtyard

  50. Moving around the room • You must ask permission • (Raise your hand to ask permission) • Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency
