A Good Mother Genesis 3:20 “And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.” Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”

  2. Model Yourself after Godly Mothers • Humble as Mary • Prayerful as Hannah • Faithful as Sarah - Heb. 11:11 • Kind as Ruth • Successful as Rachel • Instructive as Eunice and Lois - 2 Tim.2:15 • Wise as mother of Lemuel - Prov. 31:1

  3. Obey the Lord Children become what they see If you want your children to grow into faithful Christians, they need to see their mother faithfully following Christ. Children come equipped with a powerful hypocrisy detector and are not easily fooled by “do as I say and not as I do” behavior.

  4. I'd Rather See A Sermon Edgar A. Guest I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day; I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way. The eye's a better pupil and more willing than the ear, Fine counsel is confusing, but example's always clear; And the best of all preachers are the men who live their creeds, For to see good put in action is what everybody needs.

  5. I'd Rather See A Sermon - continued I soon can learn to do it if you'll let me see it done; I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run. And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true, But I'd rather get my lessons by observing what you do; For I might misunderstand you and the high advice you give, But there's no misunderstanding how you act and how you live.

  6. Teach Your Children God’s Word “These words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 Deut. 6:8-9 “You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 “You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Honor Your Own Parents and Husband “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:1-3 Honor - Obedience in childhood - Respect and reverence always - Kindness and love at all times Titus 2:4 “That they may teach”

  8. Encourage Often Colossians 3:21 “Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.” - applies to mothers also - encourage children to do well Psalm 127:3 “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”

  9. Rebuke when necessary Proverbs 13:24 NKJV “He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” Prov. 22:15 NKJV “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him.” Prov. 23:13-14 “Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.”
