  1. Rapid Bond FlexaMix™

  2. What Is FlexaMix™? • A paradigm shift in starch mixing modules

  3. How Does FlexaMix™ Do It? • With a Mechanical Redesign • Current problem with existing starch kitchens in U.S.: • Stein-Hall starch particles, are typically too large to penetrate fibers of recycled paper • Eliminates benefits from mechanical bonding • This is solved with cost-adding additives and penetrants

  4. How Does FlexaMix™ Do It? • Mechanical: • Specially designed mixing tank • Custom PLC software • Patent-pending Viscometer • Viscometer designed specifically for starch adhesive • Viscometer has no moving components – nothing to maintain or fail • Viscometer is automatic & accurate • Viscometer measures viscosity 100% of the batch time • Viscosity is guaranteed to be consistent from batch-to-batch per pre-set value selected by user

  5. How Does FlexaMix™ Do It? • Hybrid-Mix Starch • Combines the primary of Stein-Hall with the partial-swell characteristics of No-Carrier • Small carrier (significantly less than Stein-Hall) • Results in shorter starch and better machinability • All starch particles equally and partially swollen • Allows for custom formulation for each paper type • A more stable starch adhesive • Less shear-viscosity sensitivity

  6. How Does FlexaMix™ Do It? Hybrid-Mix Starch (cont’d) • Easy to move starch between primary and secondary • More solids with lower swelling yields smaller particle size and same viscosity • Less solids with more swelling yields larger particles with same viscosity • Removed dependence on additives

  7. The FlexaMix™ System • Stainless Platform • Painted Enamel Frame • Stainless option • 475 Gallon Stainless Mixing Tank • Two Stainless Borax Feeder Tanks • Stainless Piping (and Flexible) • Stainless Flanged Fittings • Allen-Bradley PLC Controlled • Allen-Bradley HMI • High Shear Mixing Assembly • Two Stainless Flow Meters • Better accuracy for additive lines • Stainless Load Cells • Dedicated set for borax feeder • Dedicated set for mixing tank • Modem for off-site diagnostics

  8. What Does FlexaMix™ Do? • Reduces starch consumption • Increases pin numbers • Eliminates usage of additives • Reduces energy consumption • Can use untreated corrugator & flexo wash water • Uses any native un-modified pearl starch: Corn, Tapioca, Wheat, Potato
