Bellwork Review all your notes and answer the following questions: • Other than lower the tax on imported molasses, what else did the Sugar Act do? • Name two things that happened as a result of the Stamp Act. • In order to increase Native American attacks on frontier settlers, what did the British pay them for?

  3. Answers • Sugar Act allowed British officers to seize smuggled goods without going to court. • Stamp Act • Sam Adams formed Sons of Liberty • Americans boycotted British goods • Colonists wrote King George a letter • British officers paid Native Americans for settlers scalps

  4. British Retreat to Yorktown, VA • As the War waged on in the south, many homes, land, and businesses were destroyed. The British began to lose most of their support in the south • Britain lost support of many of their loyalists supporters in the south. • Patriot forces began to surround British General Cornwallis’ army. • Cornwallis and his British forces fled to Yorktown

  5. Washington Pursues • Realizing that it would be difficult for the British to defend Yorktown and hard for them to escape, Washington’s Continental Army along with their French allies followed the British to Yorktown.
