  1. Wildlife and Nature Photography Nature photography refers to a wide range of photography taken outdoors and devoted to displaying natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures.

  2. Wildlife and Nature Photography • Some people view it as easy • Being at the right place at the right time knowing when that time is, is essential.

  4. Know your subject • What will you be shooting • Determine living habits. • Food • Does it feed in the tree or on the ground • Does wait at the tops of trees, or on a telephone wire? • What are it’s habits ? • Some animals tend to return back to the same spot

  5. A Serious Nature Photographer Dresses for the occasion • Some obvious: • Avoid bright colors, wear green, navy, brown…non-alarming colors • Avoid strong odors • Camouflage, shorts or loose pants

  6. Silhouettes • Any time you have the sun as backlight, you can take a nice silhouette.

  7. Using Photoshop You can use Photoshop to get the effect you want

  8. Patience is Key Insects are naturally skittish, and this means that photographers will need to take a little extra time to get the perfect shot so they are not scared away. The best times to shoot most insects are early in the morning as insects are more abundant due to fewer predators.

  9. Patience is Key • Birds tend to come back out quickly after people have passed by. • Just stop and wait. • Have the camera ready.

Your Assignment… • Take 5-8 photos of nature: animals or plants. • Upload 5 photos • 2 photos need to be of an animal: birds and insects are fairly easy to find on campus. • DO NOT disturb any classroom activities • Finish the images in Photoshop create at least 2 photos in black & white. • Manipulate the brightness, contrast, colors, levels, etc. • Create compositions that use unique thought and creativity • For close ups change the camera setting to the Flower. • SAVE AS: NATURE PHOTO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
