  3. Concentrations • Quarter 1: The Politics of Language • Quarter 2: Argument and Persuasion • Quarter 3: Narrative and Descriptive Prose • Quarter 4: Visual Arguments/Synthesis/Test Prep • AP Exams in May • A quick survey of American Fiction

  4. About Time • The curriculum is designed for efficiency, but not laziness • Writing • Hard, productive work will lead to improved writing • Two major essays per quarter • Reading: • Essays from the textbook (college level) • Plenty of independent reading

  5. Why it’s Worth It Hey Mr. Narter, ...I had you two years ago for English AP and I’d just like to tell you how much I appreciated what you taught me. I wrote an essay for my “Rhet” class and got an A+ on the first draft. It was a “show don’t tell” sort of essay. I was surprised by how much of what you said came back to me. I looked at my sentence structure and my tension. I employed absolutely no “to be” verbs and all-in-all I think that [the class] really made my paper stronger...
