  5. Math Children use math manipulatives to learn to count. Children learn math readiness through hands-on activities, games, finger-plays, and songs. Concepts include numbers, shapes, sorting, patterns, and one-to-one correspondence.

  6. Language Arts Children learn that print has meaning, to recognize and write their own names, to listen to and retell stories, and to create stories of their own. Children are exposed to the alphabet and environmental print. They begin to learn their letters by written formation and sounds.

  7. Science During “Meet and Greet”, we will discuss the weather regularly. Children will explore and experience science through observation and hands on activities. For example, they will plant seeds, collect leaves, rocks and acorns from nature.

  8. Social Studies Children will learn simple concepts of history and America through songs and books read aloud. Children will learn how to cooperate in a classroom community. They will learn the importance of safety at school and at home.

  9. Snack and Recess Snack and Recess are very important times of the day for Pre-K students because it allows them to interact socially and make new friends while developing independence and good manners. We eat snack in the classroom daily. Please send water as the drink. We will be cooking on Friday. Please check the website for the Friday cooking activity.

  10. Peanut Allergies Please remember if your child is in a peanut free classroom, NO nuts of any kind are allowed. This includes peanut butter, peanut butter crackers, cookies or items with nuts in them.

  11. Birthdays During snack or during the last 15 minutes of the day, parents are welcome to come back to the classroom to celebrate. Cupcakes or other snacks must be store bought. Please no party favors. No siblings will be allowed back to the classroom.

  12. Take Home Folders Please be sure to check your child’s folder each night. This is a great communication tool for you to use to find out what happened at school each day. Please initial daily and remove any papers that have been sent home.

  13. Attendance Texas laws regarding attendance and truancy apply to ECS students and parents. If your child is absent, please send an email to EarlyChildhood@friscoisd.orgor a written note explaining your child’s absence. Being tardy counts towards truancy. If your child arrives after 7:40 for the 1st session and 10:50 for the 2nd session, they will be tardy and must be checked in through the front office.

Roughly 70% of our classroom is typically developing pre-k students, qualifying for the program based on English as a second language, economic status or military families. 30% of our classroom is made up of students with disabilities.
