  1. Plant Form and Function Learning Goal: How are plants structurally adapted for survival? Concept 1: Analyzing the structure, growth, development and nutrition of plants (Ch 35, 37) Refer to pg 207-210; 215-216 in HoltzclawCh 35, 37 in Campbell Media resources

  2. How has this plant modified its growth and morphology in response to its environment? developmental plasticity: the ability to alter form in response to local environmental conditions

  3. Plant Structure, Growth, and Development (Ch 35) You must know: • The function of xylem and phloem tissue • The specific functions of tracheids, vessels, sieve-tube elements, and companion cells. • The correlation between primary growth and apical meristems verses secondary growth and lateral meristems.

  4. The Plant “Body” • Organism – organs – tissues – Cells • Plants have this hierarchy! • Organs: • Root System • Roots: Can have symbiotic relationship with mycorrhizae(fungi) • Shoot System • Stems • Leaves

  5. Modified Roots

  6. Where does the mass of this tree come from?

  7. Modified Stems

  8. Modified Leaves
