3. As such, Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) continues to play a crucial role
? in bringing people and their communities
together
? giving new expression to cultural identity
? providing public and commercial services
? sharing ideas in research and innovation
and
? driving productivity growth.
8. E-Commerce, the private sector’s version of conducting business electronically, paved the way for E-Government and was, in many ways, the catalyst for it.
Today’s E-Government is much more than the publishing of information about the organization or business transactions.
9. The E-Government programme in Pakistan is an initiative under the National IT Policy approved by the Federal Cabinet in August 2000.
This policy defined the role of the Government as an enabler for IT based future economy.
10. Telecommunication sector in Pakistan is the harbinger to deregulation policy of the Government whereby it shrinking its role through devolution and decentralization.
We in Pakistan has acclaimed that it is not the business of Government to be in business
11. NTC was established through the promulgation of Pakistan Telecommunication (Re- organization) Act, 1996.
It was envisioned as sole Telecommunication Services provider to the Federal Government, Provincial Government & Defense Organizations.
12. NTC is privileged to serve high echelon and decision-makers in the Government.
The unyoking of telecomm sector, which is fast growing and ever changing, demands that the organizations playing in it are to be pragmatic, dynamic and responsive to change.
13. Establishment of Data Network & Modernization Department
In the quest of Governments objective NTC established Data Network & Modernization department and tasked to embark upon Multi Services Data Network project, which should provide services to the Government Ministries/ Divisions for implementations of e-initiatives.

NTC is offering Web hosting facilities to Government departments.
It has the honour of hosting Government official portal i.e. www.pakistan.gov.pk
