Asexuality is… • Someone who does not experience sexual attraction.
Features • Many will identify as lesbian, gay, bi, or straight • Same emotional needs and relationships • Most have been asexual for their entire lives • Not discussed much outside of asexual circles • Up to 3 Million self-identified in the U.S. and about 1% of the world • Asexual people are just as likely to date sexual people as much as asexual people “To be sexual is to be human”
Types • Repulsed Asexuals: Opposed to the idea of having sex • Flexible Asexuals: More open to the idea of having sex and may be willing to have sex for the benefit of the sexual partner • AromanticAsexuals: Have little or no romantic drive • Romantic Asexuals: Have a romantic drive and often have a desire to find a significant other. (Hetero, homo, bi, & pan romantics)
