  4. QUICK FACTS • China is home to one-quarter of the worlds population. • China has the worlds largest population in the world. • China has about 9.6 million square kilometres and the shape of it has resemblance to a rooster. • It has borders with about 14 different countries including Korea, Russia and India.

  5. FESTIVALS • The Dragon Boat Festival is on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month and has had a history of more than 2,000 years. It is usually in June. • There are many legends about the festival but the most popular of which is in remembering of Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was minister of the State of Chu and one of China's earliest poets. In great pressure from the powerful Qin State, he strengthened the country and its military to fight against the Qin. However, he was opposed by aristocrats headed by Zi LAN. In 278 BC he heard the news that Qin troops had finally conquered Chu's capital, so he finished his last piece and threw himself into the Mi uo River, rapping his arms around a large stone. That day happened to be the 5th of the 5th month in the Chinese lunar calendar.

  6. FOOD • Since ancient times, many factors have influenced it. Cooking Chinese food requires more time and effort, and is considered a very sophisticated task. Many travellers who have visited China consider Chinese cuisines one of the best. A meal in Chinese culture is typically made of two general parts: • main food - a carbohydrate source, typically rice, noodles and a side dish - of vegetables, fish, meat or other food. • Today there are mainly four main styles of food in China Beijing style, the Shanghai style, the Szechuan Style and the Cantonese Style. The Cantonese style is the most popular style in overseas restaurants. When you are travelling in China, you would find it extremely hard to resist the Peking duck, the Shanghai pork bun, or the Cantonese dim sum.

  7. GREAT PLACES • The Terracotta warriors, a collection of terracotta sculptures showing the armies of Shi Huangdi (the First Emperor of China). The warriors dating from 210 BCwere discovered in 1974 by some farmers in the Linton District, Shaanxi province near the Mausoleum of the First Qin. The figures vary in height, according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots, horses, officials, acrobats, strongmen and musicians.

  8. GREAT PLACES 2 • The park opened to visitors on 12 September 2005. Disney attempted to avoid problems of cultural backlash by incorporating Chinese culture, customs, and traditions, when designing and building the resort. The park consists of four themed areas: Main Street, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. The park has a daily capacity of 34 000 visitors. The park will be having an expansion.
