  3. I. The Arabian Peninsula Regions • Jabal al Hijaz • On the west coast • Receives enough rain for farming • East coast -also some farming • Inner peninsula • Mostly desert • Largest of these is the Rub’ al Khali • Northern most is Syrian desert

  4. II. The Arabian People • Arabian Peninsula in Arabic means Island of the Arabs • Fertile regions of Arabia • Most people live in the fertile regions • Many people herd goats & sheep • Irrigation helped improve harvests • Some people moved north to Petra when an aqueduct brought in fresh water

  5. II. The Arabian People C. Camels & Caravans • Camels used for travel across the desert • Milk for food • Caravans traveled well known routes • Traded with Egypt & the Fertile Crescent region D. Bedouins & herders • Bedouins means “people of the desert” • Herders frequently had conflicts with farmers Why would farmers & herders come to conflict?
