AP Program Objectives • Identify and eliminate barriers to open access • Increase the number of pre-AP and AP classes offered • Increase the level of student performance in pre-AP and AP classes and on benchmark assessments • Increase student and parental awareness of • academic acceleration options • the commitment required for pre-AP and AP success

  4. AP Program Design • 4 district level lead teachers (1 per core area) • Best practices laboratory classroom • Develop vertical teams • APCAT (AP Capacity Assessment Tool) • Campus Implementation Plan • Student and Teacher Support • Develop data accumulation/analysis model

  8. Pre-AP Math Strategies • Presenting comprehensive problems linking several concepts • Presenting contextual word problems • Using technology appropriately • Asking questions with multiple parts that depend on previous parts

Pre-AP Math Strategies cont’d • Exposing students to information expressed in graphical, numerical and equation form • Helping students to make connections between these multiple presentations • Requiring students to justify their solutions in written form and draw conclusions • Stress conceptual understanding over skills
