  1. Welcome to Mrs. Frazier’s Back To School Night First Grade Carnelian Elementary School

  2. Mrs. Frazier • Attended Carnelian Elementary School as a child. • BA from Point Loma Nazarene University • MA from Cal Poly Pomona • Married and has 2 children, a senior at Alta Loma High School and a sophomore at UC Berkeley • Has taught for 20 years, grades 1st – 3rd

  3. Daily Schedule • 8:00 – 8:15 Attendance, lunch count, and Mountain Math and Language • 8:15 – 9:15 Reading groups by ability (ExCel) • 9:15 – 9:45 P.E. (Wear appropriate shoes.) • 9:45 – 10:00 Snack recess (Only healthy snacks please.) • 10:00 – 10:50 Language Arts (Tues. music with Mr. Mann)

Daily Schedule Continued • 10:50 – 11:35 Lunch • 11:35 – 12:00 Silent reading time, story- time, and sharing • 12:00 – 1:00 Calendar time and math (Tues. – library day, Thurs. – computer lab) • 1:00 – 1:15 Recess (Wed. 1:00 dismissal) • 1:15 – 2:15 Writing, art and music (Fri. – Science, Social Studies, Anti-bully program, Too Good For Drugs program, and math games) • 2:15 – 2:30 Clean up and get ready to go home

  5. Class Rules • Be safe • Be kind • Be proud

  6. Consequences • Children have been given behavior cards. If they break a rule they will have their behavior card written on. Behavior cards will be sent home to be signed once a month. If a child has frequent problems, then their card will be sent home weekly. • If there is a continuing problem I will send a note to parents or phone home. • If there is a severe problem the child will be sent to the principal’s office.

  7. Rewards • No writings on the card will earn a stamp. • If a child has 5 stamps in a week they will earn a prize from the prize box and “Fun Friday” time. • If there are no writings all month, the child will get a red slip for the student store.

  8. Homework • Homework will be sent home every Friday. • It needs to be returned in the same folder on the following Friday. • Parents need to check the child’s work and help them fix any errors. • Poetry books will come home 1 time a month and they need to be returned at the end of the week. • Reading calendars need a minimum of 75 min. per week for your child to get the monthly and yearly awards. They will need to read on the weekend too!

  9. Accelerated Reader (AR) • AR is a reading comprehension program that will replace Reading Counts. • Once your child knows 100 high frequency words they will start Accelerated Reader. • Once they start I will give you information so you can see their progress at home.

  10. Top Banana • Every child will get a chance to be the Top Banana for one week. • Children will fill out a form that tells us a little bit about themselves. • Children are to bring in pictures, books, baby clothes, etc. Items that will help us better know your child. • Top Banana children will share their items on the Mon. of their special week.

  11. Birthdays • Please notify me if you want to bring in treats for your child’s birthday. • We have a child with peanut allergies. Please keep that in mind when you send in treats. I can help you with ideas if you would like help planning what you will bring. • If your child’s birthday is in the summer I will give them an “un”birthday date to celebrate.

  12. Parent Volunteers • I love parent volunteers!Parents can: • Help once a week in the classroom. Let me know what time and day work best for you. I will start using parent helpers the 3rd week of school. • Be the Room Parent to plan parties. (Halloween, Christmas, and the end of the year picnic) • Take work home and return it later in the week. • If interested, please fill out a pink note!

  13. Text books • The text books are on the back table. Please feel free to look at them at the end of the evening.
