  2. Enrolment Procedure Start Here • Register your name and attend Information Session 1. Collect Enrolment Pack and forms Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences* Finish Here Enrolment Procedure Semester 1 begins 3rd March 2014 • 3. Ensure you have completed your Unit Enrolment 5. If required: check timetable on Allocate Plus • 4. Go to Student Service Center in to submit enrolment verification and receive your ID card.

  3. IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED YOUR UNIT ENROLMENT VIA WES (online): This form MUST be completed in your course information session and submitted TODAY to Faculty staff to formalise your enrolment

  5. BA/BSW course structure • The course is undertaken in the following sequence: • (a) first year is composed of seven arts and one social work unit (48 points) • (b) second year is composed of five arts units and three social work units (48 points)

  6. BA/BSW course structure • (c) third year includes three arts units (which complete the major sequence); the rest are social work units (including the first field education placement) • (d) the final year is composed of social work units only, including the second field education placement.

BA/BSW first year- first semester- full time on campus • You should be enrolled in the following units: • ATS1365 Introduction to Sociology • SWK1011 Intro Human Services • ATS 1366 The Individual and Society, and • One Arts unit- you select (could be part of your minor or major or an elective)

  8. Electives • Your BA/BSW course allows for you to take one minor and one major area of study in Arts. You must ensure that you fulfil the requirements for the Arts Degree by completing: • One minor • One major • Please check the handbook for the number of units you need for your selected minor or major in Arts.   9. BA/BSW first year -Second semester-full time on campus • ATS1254 Culture, power and difference: Indigeneity and Australian identity • ATS1366 Introduction to sociology 2 • PSY1022 Psychology 1B or ATS1262 Introduction to social behaviour • one first-year arts unit

  10. Electives • Your BA/BSW course may allows for you to take one minor and one major area of study in Arts. You must ensure that you fulfil the requirements for the Arts Degree by completing: • One minor • One major • Please check the handbook for the number of units you need for your selected minor or major in Arts.

To be eligible to graduate with the BA/BSW you must complete For the Arts component : • A major and minor study as follows: • arts discipline major (48 points) • arts discipline minor in a different area of study (24 points) • Additional arts elective units (18 points) • All Social Work units are compulsory (96 points)

  12. Psychology Major • The APAC accredited psychology major is available for students who wish to complete a further two psychology units Refer to the Psychology areas of study. (http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/2013handbooks/aos/psychology/ug-med-psychology.html).

  13. Enrolment Limits Full time students can enrol in four (six point units) per semester. Double weighted units are twelve points and you will undertake several of these in social work: Critical Social Work 1( 12 points) Supervised Professional Practice 1 and 2 are both 12 points Critical Social Work 4 is 12 points.

  14. Overloading Students may not take more than 24 points of study each semester. Overloading (exceeding the 24pt limit) is restricted to students who have completed at least one year of university study and have achieved at least a credit average in the previous academic year.

Deadlines for change of enrolment Last day to ADD units to your enrolment End of the second week of each semester = Last day to DISCONTINUE units Semester 1 - March 31st Semester 2 - August 31st = Discontinuation of units after this date will incur penalties – please refer to the Student Information Index or your Student Diary for details.

  16. Computer Account HAVE YOU REGISTERED FOR YOUR COMPUTER ACCOUNT? If not you can do so at: http://www.monash.edu.au/students/computers • All students need to have a computer account, which has a NOVELLusername and AUTHCATEpassword, to access computer services and facilities. • This enables you to access: • Web based enrolment systems (WES) • Exam results & academic transcript • My Monash Portal • Allocate Plus Enquiries regarding this may be directed to the ITS Service Desk

WES: Web Enrolment System • What you can do in WES • Unit enrolment • Complete Commonwealth Supported Place applications • Complete Enrolment questionnaire • View your results • Register to receive your results via SMS • Print/view your unofficial academic record • Change your address • Check your exam timetable • Receive important messages and updates

Allocate + Allocate+ is Monash University’s Online Tutorial System https://allocate.timetable.monash.edu/ • After enrolling in units, youmay need to allocate into lectures, tutorial and practical classes using the ALLOCATE PLUS system before Semester commences. • It can take about an hour for the unit to show in Allocate + • Closes on Thursday 19th Feb 5:00pm • Sort is run Fri 20 Feb • Opens in Allocation Adjustment Mode Tue 24 Feb 7am

  19. Monash Email Address Important information regarding enrolment and university information is sent to student email accounts. In some cases, no hard copy information repeating this information will be sent to your home address. It is your responsibility to check your Monash student email address regularly.

  20. Internet Usage • Approximately 1GB per semester is allocated to each student • This should be sufficient to meet the needs of your study • Downloading which exceeds the allowance will be charged to your account. Monitor your usage via the “Personal Info” section on the My Monash Portal. • Keep your User ID & Password safe - all Internet transactions are recorded and can be traced to a User ID • Internet use not directly related to your studies is not permitted.

  21. Supervised Professional Practice - Field Education • Supervised Professional Practice- Field Education is part of your Social Work program. • All students undertake 1000 hours of supervised field education placement (500 hours first placement usually in year 3 and second semester of your degree and again in the 4th year of your degree. • Please note that in the third year placements start in June- meaning no semester break.

  22. Working with Children Checks • Students/staff at hospitals with exposure to children are now required to undergo a Department of Justice check once every five years. • Further information can be obtained online Remember: It is your responsibility to have a current WWC check prior to your placement

  23. Police checks • If you are participating in field education placements you will be required to undergo a police check each year. • Further information can be obtained from the field work manual. Remember: It is your responsibility to have a current police check prior to your placement

  26. International Students • Please note International students must maintain: • Current address details (use WES) • A full study load each semester (4 units = 24 credit points)
