OCP-IP Overview (www.ocpip.org) • Founded – Announced: June ’01 – December ’01 • Standard: ONE, The Open Core Protocol • Members: 200 (85% Corporate, 10% University, 5% Associations) • Working Groups (WG’s) : Strategic, Marketing and 6 Technical • Structure: Global/Virtual (0 employees, 70-200 inc. contractors and member contributors) • Legal: Non-profit, Operational headquarters Beaverton, Oregon, USA

OCP-IP Focus & Importance • Focus: OCP is an IP-Core interface that facilitates re-use in block-based SoC design (also finding homes in FPGA’s) • Importance • Socket-based: separates Computational Core from Communications (the Key to re-use!) • Non-Proprietary • COMPLETE: Data, Control & Test • Established, accompanying high value infrastructure with industry-leading technical advances relating to IP-Core Interface

OCP-IP: What’s Worked? • Infrastructure Development • Contributions (within WG’s/from Corporations) • Collaborations (Associations & Universities) • TTM • Strategic Planning • Program Management • “Need & Greed” • Flexibility (Operations and Relationships) • Technical excellence • Website Communications, etc. …..and, GLOBAL adoption!

  5. OCP-IP: What’s NOT Working? • Members have access to all IP, tools, support, training and advanced developments required for them to excel. So,……. ………..Our Search Failed; no failure to report!

  6. Struggles of (IP) Standards: The PROGRESSION • Awareness/Comprehension: TOO Little or TOO Much? CAUSES • Insufficient resources • $’s, time and/or people RESULTING IN • Incomplete work (little support) • Fragmentation/non-standards • Cause: Lack of leadership, commitment, focus and structure • LATE delivery (little support) • Cause: Lack of leadership, commitment, focus and structure • Traction of tolerable proprietary alternatives Solution: Treat standards as products, with (TIMELY) PROMOTION!

  7. Scoring IMPORTANCE of IP Standards 1 = Waste of Time 10 = Must have to endure IP community Survival 5| 8 Big UsersSmall Providers (Nature found a way (Key to BIZ efficiency and for to drive external suppliers) making money!)
