  1. How To Write a Persuasive Essay Language Arts Mrs. Mitchell 2012 – 2013

  2. What are the criteria for a good persuasive essay? • A good persuasive essay clearly states your opinion on a topic. • A good persuasive essay includes examples and other evidence to describe the points in support of your position. • A good persuasive essay addresses possible arguments against your position. • A good persuasive essay uses correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

  3. 1. Let’s get this straight! Be very clear when stating your opinion on a topic. If you choose to use sarcasm or irony to help make your point, be very careful that it will not be misinterpreted.

  4. 2. And I should care because…? Be sure to include examples and other evidence to help you support your claim. You’re not likely to persuade others to your way of thinking just because you say so. Convince them!

  5. 3. No, sir. You are mistaken. Be sure to address at least three possible arguments against your position on a topic. Don’t allow your audience to ask, “But what about this?”
