  1. How definitions of health have changed over time. Researching why advice changes over time.

  2. The Health and Lifestyle Survey • When was the survey carried out? • Why did they use a random sample of people? • When the survey was repeated, why did they try to use the same sample?

  3. Ideas of what to research. • Cot death • Pregnancy • Smoking • Antibiotics • What are the government doing about it?

  4. What to Look for… • What is the current advice given out? E.g. not to smoke at all, to only take antibiotics when absolutely necessary, to lay a baby on it’s back. • What was the advice given out 10-15 years ago? E.g. smoking was acceptable, antibiotics were given out freely, to place a baby on it’s tummy to sleep.

  5. How have ideas changed over time and why? • Ideas have changed over time because of: • Advances in technology • Medical research has found out new things e.g. smoking causes cancer • Surveys have been carried out • New laws have come into place e.g. smoking ban, 18+ to buy cigarettes as from 1.10.07!

  6. Title: How have ideas about health and well being changed over time Write up your work on the Health and lifestyle survey. Explain how our ideas have changed over time.

  7. What else to include: • Graphs • Statistics • Tables of results • If you include figures from before it will show how the new advice given has had an effect on the latest figures. You should see a drop in cases of cot death etc

  8. South Leeds Survey 2005 • Look at the website and use this survey to further your ideas of how the definitions of health have changed over time.
