  1. Be Informed 4 Dr. Brand Niemann Director and Senior Enterprise Architect – Data Scientist Semantic Community AOL Government Blogger January 5, 2012

  2. Overview • Today I am in the Netherlands learning about Be Informed 4 from Menno Gulpers, Knowledge Architect - Chief Trainer, with the Be Informed Academy. • Be Informed 4 is a advanced software platform for both business and technology people to build dynamic case management applications. • Be Informed 4 enables organizations to realize knowledge intensive administrative processes where complex decisions have to be made on a regular basis.

  3. Be Informed http://www.beinformed.com/

  4. Separation of Concerns:Business Speak and Technology Speak

  5. Be Informed is anIntegrated Modeling Environment

  6. Case Management To performing activities towards a goal that usually have pre and post conditions, etc.

  7. Products and Decisions To show the logic of making a decision with conditions that reference data and calculations and logic operations

  8. Registration To show data objects and relationships

  9. Interaction To define contents of a role-based portal, or legacy system interfaces

  10. Overview • This morning Menno gave me the Be Informed Practitioner training and demonstrations of how to build an application and this afternoon he guided me in building the Housing Benefit Application shown in the next slides. • As you can see the Model = Design + Application + Documentation and all of the them are Semantic Services. • Be Informed 4 is a major achievement in agile development for business and technology people that does not require conventional software development.

  11. Housing Benefit Application • Create the Models: • Customer Register • Benefit Request • Eligibility Model • Publish a Decision Document • Create a Portal Model • Run the Model on the Web • Refine the Models

  12. Create the Models PC Desktop Studio

  13. Run the Model on the Web http://localhost:8080/webui/webapp/

  14. Additional Slides • Recreate Training Steps • PowerPoint with Recording • Example of Each of Four MetaModel Types • Examples: • DoD DCMO • VA Health Benefits Blue Button Personal Health Record • Enterprise Model Patterns by David Hay • EPA Envirofacts Warehouse • FAA NextGen • UDEF • etc.

  15. Housing Benefit • Overview of Target Operating Model: • User Role • Applicant • Case Handler • Portal • Benefits • Customers • Product • Housing Benefit • Case • Benefit Request • Registration • Customer Registration

  16. Housing Benefit • In this exercise we will create a model within this Target Operating Model (TOM). • Note: The TOM will be generated at any time, you do not have to create it. • Steps: • 1 Customer Registration • 2 Case (1 Deep) • 3 Portals • 4 Case 2 (2 Deep) • 5 Case Preconditions • 6 Subcase • 7 Profiles

  17. 1 Customer Registration • Model Customer Registration • Object Customer • Social Security Number • Name • Address (Dutch Address) • Date of Birth • Age (Implicit)

  18. 1 Customer Registration

  19. 2 Case (1 Deep) • Model the Case with the most important artifacts • Lookup the Customer • Model the Eligibility: • Applicant must live in an independent rental house • Applicant’s income must be lower than Euro 2000 • Applicant’s savings should not exceed Euro 27500 • Applicant’s rent must be less that Euro 300 • Publish the Decision Model • Run the Model • Create a Portal Concept first and then open: • http://localhost8080/webui/webapp/

  20. 2 Case (1 Deep)

  21. 3 Portals • Create Two Portals • Customers • Benefits • Create Two User Roles • Applicant • Case Handler

  28. No Process Blog http://www.noprocess.org/

  29. System of System Building Process • Best Content to a Knowledgebase (MindTouch): • Documents and Data Sets • Semantic Extraction and Search of the Knowledgebase (SIRA and Textrium): • Documents • Knowledgebase to Spreadsheet (Excel): • Linked Data to Subparts of the Knowledgebase • Excel to Dashboard (Spotfire): • Data Integration and Interoperability Interface • Spotfire Dashboard to Dynamic Case Management (Be Informed): • Structured Process for Updating the Dashboard

  30. My Ideas • Be Informed can be used to improve data collection from Web Sites in general, especially where spreadsheets are used, and users are left to their own discretion as to the quality and quantity of data they enter and submit. • It is possible to reach a level of trust by clients with use of Be Informed that they would see that the cost of pilots are less than the cost of the formal procurement process and the cost of implementations are significantly less than the cost of their legacy systems.

  31. Highlights from Practitioner Slides • Model the goal and what is needed to achieve it, not the order of activities • “Manually consolidate up front” • “Analysts specify business aspects, computers consolidate into processes” • First describe at high level, after that specify further • Model = Design + Application + Documentation or Model = [Design + Application + Documentation] • Business modeling ≠ systems development • 4 layers of knowledge: Interface, business processes, model, and content • Tests are created in Excel

  32. Insight • Welcome to Insight, Be Informed's knowledge base. Insight contains detailed information about Be Informed products, services and implementation methodology.
